VA Requirements for Medical Certificate:
A student pursuing an Airline Transport Pilot course must have and maintain a current Class I medical certificate. VA regulations further state that payment may not be made for training pursued after a medical certificate expires and will consider any benefits paid in which the appropriate medical certificate is not in effect to be an overpayment subject to recovery.

If adding a B737 Type Rating to a commercial pilots license, a class II medical certificate is required.
